Anne Lister

My twenty year odyssey through the life of Anne Lister via her journals and letters has been, and continues to be, a never-failing source of literary delight. On the day I entered the Calderdale Archives in search of a subject to write about and was introduced to Anne’s journals, I knew that my subject had, in fact, found me. It is this fascination, which caught and held me, which I wanted to share with others. The two books of extracts edited by me and already published1 , covering the years 1817-1826 plus a further published edition of extracts by Jill Liddington2 went part of the way to achieving that desire. Now, this project of placing the journals and letters on the world-wide web completes it.
