This is where you're going to discover just what it was like to be a patient in the asylum.

You'll be examining real cases from hospital records, finding out why patients were there and what might have happened to them:

  1. It looked after people who were mentally ill.
  2. The doctors and nurses tried to help the patients get better through medicines and work therapy.
  3. The patients were all very poor and their parishes paid the asylum 6 shillings a week.
  4. Before the asylum opened they would have had a miserable life in the poorhouse or prison.
