Trailblazing headmistress of Keighley Girls’ Grammar School (1942-68). Born in Suffolk c1908. Died in Steeton in 1998. Jennett began her teaching career in Warwick. She then worked in Luton before getting the job as headmistress of Keighley Girls’ Grammar in 1942. Aged 33, she was the youngest headmistress in the country. A far-sighted and enlightened teacher she won a scholarship to study educational methods in the US in 1948. In 1956 she was the only woman in a group of eight British representatives to study teaching methods in Russia. She launched the school as a mixed comprehensive, Greehead, in 1966 before retiring two years later. She served on many educational bodies including the Anderson Committee (1958); West Riding Consultative Committee for Education (chair 1953-61); the Secondary Programme Sub-committee of the School Broadcasting Council; the Joint Four Executive Committee; Keighley Committee for Education and the Keighley Teachers’ Joint Committee.
