Founder of the Thornton Nursing Association. Born c1877. Died in 1961 in Thornton. Married Tom Emmett (Principal of T.C. Emmett Ltd. Portand Mills, Bradford). Mercy worked as a teacher before getting married and during the first World War she was the first woman in Bradford to go on the manufactur of munitions. She had a life-long interest in the welfare of the poor, aged and infirm. She represented Thornton on the Bradford Board of Gaurdians and founded the Thornton Nursing Association.
