Biographical Notes Gave a lifetime to public health in Yorkshire. Born c1899 in Buckie, Banffshire, Scotland. Died in Rotherham in 1970. Married Henry Germaine (electrical engineer). Educated at Aberdeen University and Cambridge University. She qualified as a doctor in Aberdeen gaining her M.B. and her Ch.B. and she took her D.P.H. at Cambridge. She worked in Dundee and London before her appointment as School Medical Inspector for the West Riding County Council in 1925. She later worked as Assistant County Medical Officer for the Mexbro’ and Dearne Division before returning to the W.R. Council in 1947, where stayed as full-time staff until her retirement in 1963. She continued to do part-time work for the Council until her death. She also worked as Divisional Surgeon for the Rotherham Nursing Division of the St. John’s Ambulance Brigade. Appointments include first woman president of the Rotherham and District Scottish Association (1951) and twice president of the Professional Women’s Club.
