Biographical Notes Founder member of the Bradford branch of the Women’s Royal Voluntary Service (WRVS) in 1938. Born in Australia c1904 her family came to London in 1921when her father was appointed High Commissioner for Australia. Daughter of Sir Joseph Cook (former Australian Prime Minister). Died in Bradford in 1988. Married Robert Cook MBE (an Australian who founded Kamella children’s wear and was head of Robert Cook and Co., wool and noils, Bradford). When she helped found the Bradford WRVS she worked in the canteen and the rest centre. In 1960 she was the County Borough Organiser for Bradford’s WRVS and it was in that year that she was awarded the MBE. She was also head of the Forces’ Help Society and from 1949 to 1971 she sat as a Bradford magistrate. Other honours include the British Empire Medal.
