Biographical Notes An active worker for social welfare. Born c1892. Died in 1972. Married Stuart Byatt. A teacher under the West Riding authority before getting married, Norah put most of her energy into voluntary work. She formed the Housewives Service in the Listerhills ward of Bradford and during the second World War she was a member of the voluntary car pool and worked as a post warden. In 1940 she joined the Women’s Royal Voluntary Service (WRVS) and became the Deputy Borough Organiser in 1949. She also joined the Civil Defence Corps. In 1956 she was awarded the British Empire Medal for her voluntary work. Noral also stood as a liberal candidate for the Listerhills ward after her husband had to reitre as its Councillor. She won and represented the ward for three years.
