Biographical Notes

Nursery School pioneer. Born c1884. Died in 1961. When she was a young woman Edith worked as an infant school teacher and went on to help estabish the Clarence Road Nursery School in Shipley. She also served on the Salt Grammar School board of governors as well as doing voluntary work at the Shipley clinic. Edith was also a committed pacifist, who was involved with the Pledge Union and similar organisations in Bradford. As a socialist she was president of the women’s section of Shipley Labour Party and was friends with many national figures from the Labour movement. Memberships include the local food Control Committee.
