Biographical Notes Famous aeronaut in Haworth. Died in 1906. Hired by Haworth traders and friendly societies to do a parachute jump from a hot air balloon. Her death was recorded as a misadventure verdict and it was recommended that these performances should be made unlawful. Home Secretary Gladstone was asked in Parliament whether he intended to prohibit such exhibitions in the future. In 1895 a woman parachutist had died in Peterborough and in 1902 another woman parachutist, Edith Brooke, had died in Sheffield. Two days later Lily was buried in Haworth cemetery, her gravestone was adorned with a parachute paid for by public subscription.
