Biographical Notes Campaigning Tory MP. Educated at St. Monica’s Convent, Skipton. Married Brian Peacock (director of Dale Farm Foods and Northern Dairies). Elizabeth became an MP for Batley and Spen in 1982 having waited until her children were grown up. She was a backbencher who rebelled against the Government on a number of issues including water privatisation; eye test and dental charges; poll tax and child benefit. She campaigned on behalf of coal mining and the textile industry in the region. Through defying the whip she sacrificed her job a parliamentary private secretary to Nicholas Scott. She lost her seat in 1997 due to the Labour landslide. She held some controversial views including publicly birching young offenders on the National Lottery show.
