Biographical Notes
|
Dorothy, who is from Castleford, was confined to a wheelchair following a tragic accident in 1970. During her recovery period in hospital she became involved in the work of the British Sports Association for the Disabled and this led to her trying her hand at the shot, discuss and javelin. Feeling an affinity with these sports Dorothy trained with the paraplegic team which was based at Pinderfields Hospital in Wakefield. With pure determination and a punishing training schedule, Dorothy became British, European, world and Olympic record holder for the shot, javelin and discuss.
