| Biographical Notes | Born in York. Educated at the mount School and studied at the Central College of Speech Training and Dramatic Art. Judi made her professional debut playing the Virgin Mary in the York Mystery Plays and four years later made her first stage debut with at the Old Vic Company in 1957. She remained with the company until 1961, touring Europe and North America. In a career spanning over 40 years she has gained international commercial success, being twice nominated for an Oscar. She was awarded an OBE in 1970 and a DBE in 1988. She received an honorary degree from York University. |
