Biographical Notes
|
Was secretary of the Bradford Women's Social and Political Union (WSPU) in 1906. Together with the Pankhursts and other suffragette leaders, she led a group of women on a march to the House of Parliament in London on February 1907. They obstructed the police in order to attract public recognition for the cause of women's suffrage. She was sentenced to 14 days in Holloway prison, but did not serve the full term. She was bailed out by a Belgian sympathiser who had also been the London host to the northern party. Also active in the socialist movement since the age of 16.
