Biographical Notes Founder member of the Rotherham Business and Professional Women’s Club. Born in Eastwood, Rotherham in 1901. Died in May 1976 in Wickersley. Married Alex Exley. By the age of 18 Gwen was an Associate of the Royal College of Music and a Licentiate of the Royal Academy of Music. A talented pianist and singer, she made a living as a piano tutor. But she managed to find time to be heavily involved in many women’s organisations. She was past president and founder member of the Rotherham Business and Professional Women’s club. Other appointments include past chair and treasurer and founder member of Rotherham Standing Conference of Women’s Organisations; founder and chair of Rotherham Moorgate Townswomen’s Guild; founder member and executive member of Rotherham Soroptimists and a member of the Inner Wheel executive.
