Biographical Notes
|
Born in Coventry. Educated at Thornton Grammar School.
Billie moved to Bradford as a nine year old to escape the bombing of her home town. In 1943, she began acting at the Bradford Civic Playhouse, run by JB Priestley and Esme Church. There she was spotted by a producer from the BBC and from then on began doing regular radio work. As an adult she became well known for her stage acting, working with Lawrence Olivier at the National Theatre. She is best known for her 25 year collaboration with the Nobel prize-winning Irish playwright Samuel Beckett, which began in the 60s.
